Statement Regarding Request from Columbus Educators Association and Flat Rock-Hawcreek Teachers Association
In response to the Community Educators Association and Flat-Rock Hawcreek Teachers Association’s request for better transparency around school operations criteria for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) and Flat-Rock Hawcreek School Corporation in relation to COVID-19 data, the COVID-19 Community Task Force issues the following statement:
The COVID-19 Community Task Force has been actively monitoring and reporting the most recent COVID-19 data available to track community spread of the virus since March 2020. This data is obtained from multiple sources, to include the Indiana Department of Health, Bartholomew County Health Department and Columbus Regional Health.
Recently, the Task Force updated the metrics it is reporting to replicate those published by Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. In addition, the Task Force has also added to its website the table formerly published by BCSC, for download and viewing. These metrics will be updated every Monday and Thursday, barring any delay in data from sources. The same Key Metrics are also available for review in an interactive web format at https://covid19communitytaskforce.org/data/
While the COVID-19 Community Task Force medical authorities will continue to work closely with school administrators to analyze data, the Task Force is not authorized to open or close schools. This responsibility and authority rests with the associated school corporations, who will be sharing their processes for making these decisions today via their websites. Visit http://www.bcscschools.org and http://www.flatrock.k12.in.us for details on these decision processes.
