Dr. Niedbalski, Bartholomew County Health Officer, provided an update today. Highlights of the update include:

• State testing plans and local next phases as community moves out of stay-at-home order
• Optimum Test Services opening testing site in our community – visit https://www.in.gov/isdh/ for info and locations at National Guard locations
• State is doing a study of 5,000 residents from April 2020-April 2021 to study if residents are infected or have antibodies
• We should not be surprised with the rise in positive cases, but should focus on hospitalizations and deaths as measure of success
• COVID-19 Task Force has been meeting to discuss best practices for reopening of businesses in community

Best practices:

• Social distancing
• Limit on number of persons in different businesses
• Business should consider staggering shift times and limiting hours of business
• Encourage physical distancing
• Wear cloth or commercial mask
• Businesses should reduce cross contamination between employees using sanitation methods
• Use hand sanitizer
• Frequent hand washing
• Frequently touched items should be disinfected often
• All vulnerable individuals should continue to shelter in place as much as possible
• Wear masks in public to protect others
• We need to understand that COVID-19 remains prevalent in our community and we should be doing all we can to limit it’s spread.
